  Flora

Flora, fauna, and a whole virgin environment characterize this place that pleases its visitors owing to its tropical endemic nature, great schools of fish species like shads, palometas, pacualas, big porgies, meros or groupers, and barracudas. The reefs of Cayo Coco are nearly 32 km long (21 mi.) and are renowned for its corals and diversity of gorgonians and sponges. One can find also other species like devilfish and turtles.

There is also a great predominance of the white ibis, a wading bird popularly known as coconut bird, and a singular colony of pink flamingos that live to the south of the key and provide the visitors with an unusual spectacle at dawn or during the sunset.

The woods or other vegetal formations cover almost 90% of the key area. There are also several lagoons, which constitute an ideal habitat for several animal species, and two interesting footpaths for trekking: that of the dune of "Loma del Puerto" and that of "Las Dolinas".
